2. What is webhosting?

Web hosting is a service that Internet companies provide to their clients, businesses and individuals, that allows them to publish their own material to the entire online world.

Webhosting means that your online website of information can be accessed by anyone on the globe with access to the internet by typing in, what is called, a URL, or http:// address. For example, my address is http://www.theyhost.com. You can have a domain name like this too, find one you like here.

Many people use search engines to find what they are looking for, which is different than typing in the address and browsing directly to it. You can advertise your own site in these search engines, although some are a pay service now.

3. What is a domain name?

A domain name is an internet address that makes it really easy to uniquely identify a web site, or group of computers, by name rather than by, what was traditionally used, a group of numbers ( or an IP Address )!

A domain name is made up of a maximum of 67 letters, numbers, and dashes with any valid ending extension, like (.com, .net, .org, or country code extenstions like .ca for Canada, .us for USA, plus many more).

The amount of time it takes for the Internet to realize that you have changed hosting companies, or primary and secondary DNS settings for your domain name, is about 24 to 36 hours. Also some special networks will cache the address for up to a week, so it is a good idea to overlap your hosting accounts when switching companies.
